Hazlehurst
Hazlehurst began in 1870 where crews building the Macon and Brunswick Railroad from both ends met, and it is named for the line’s surveyor, George Hazlehurst. Its 1907 courthouse is on the National Register. The city runs parks, the Water World splash pad and the Twisted Pine golf course, and Towns Bluff Park is just north of town.

Denton is the county’s other town, on US 221 southwest of Hazlehurst toward Douglas. It takes its name from the Dentons, who farmed and raised cattle here in the 1800s, and it was incorporated in 1911. Between the two towns, the highway runs through farmland and past a Coastal Pines Technical College campus.
